What does your company do with the tops left after the harvest?
The tops are left in the woods to return their nutrients to the soil. Some
landowners elect to work-up the tops for firewood for a neater appearance.
What is a tree worth?
The value of a tree depends on many things: species, size, quality, and
current markets. Our foresters will have to inspect the tree in question
to determine
its value.
Will timber harvesting damage my wildlife habitat?
While it may change the paths taken by deer, or other animals, it can actually improve
wildlife habitat by providing new, young growth perfect for bedding areas
and a food source for many wildlife species.
How soon will you be able to harvest my woods?
It will depend on the volume of other timber contracts that we have to
service, as well as the ground conditions on your particular site.
We employ highly
skilled logging foremen that schedule the individual harvests to assure
the timber is removed in a timely fashion as well as when the ground
will allow
for a quality logging job.
What about my creek crossing?
Pike portable bridges help eliminate rutted crossings and muddy streams.
How do you accumulate and load logs?
We use a knuckle boom in the central region when necessary. This loader can
be used in small log landing areas.
Doesn't cutting down large trees damage other
trees?
Pike trained timber cutters directionally fell trees limiting the harvest damage.
We love to walk in the woods; can Pike leave
a trail?
Pike loggers can level trails for long term recreational use.
Who selects the harvest trees?
Pike foresters work closely with the forest land owner and their management
objectives.
