Quality, Service, & Forest Stewardship for Over 100 years!

Woods provide shelter to deer and other forestland animals. Late winter is a scarce time for shelter and food. Shelter can be better classified as escape cover or bedding areas. These spots are densely populated with young trees and briars. During times of extreme weather or hunting, deer will choose shelter over food. A woods that is open will not attract deer because they do not feel safe. A thicker woods will provide adequate shelter and attract more deer. We have found that the best deer woods have a good balance of thick regeneration openings and Oak trees of fruit producing age. The Chinkapin Oak, a close cousin to the White Oak has a low tannin content and is very sweet to the deer’s taste.
All of our foresters are interested in wildlife and have a broad knowledge on how to manage your forestland for better wildlife habitat. If you enjoy hunting or watching wildlife, we can help you improve your property.
